Erling Haaland
Football fans knew Erling Haaland could score goals. Few knew he also had a viral rap career waiting to be rediscovered.
One of the biggest off-field stories of the 2026 FIFA World Cup isn’t about a spectacular goal or a dramatic upset—it’s about a homemade rap song recorded by Haaland and his friends nearly a decade ago that’s suddenly become one of the internet’s biggest sensations.
Now, thanks to Norwegian superstar DJ Kygo, that teenage joke has evolved into a legitimate dance track that’s climbing streaming charts and becoming the unofficial soundtrack of Norway’s historic World Cup run.
What Is “Kygo Jo”?
Back in 2016, a 15-year-old Erling Haaland joined fellow Norway youth national teammates Erik Botheim and Erik Tobias Sandberg to form a fun rap group called Flow Kingz.
The trio recorded “Kygo Jo,” a playful hip-hop track inspired by fellow Norwegian music icon Kygo. Haaland performed under the nickname “Lyng,” and the homemade music video featured the teenagers dancing, grilling, hanging out, and enjoying life during a national team camp.
At the time, it was simply a fun project between friends. Nobody imagined that millions of football fans would rediscover it years later.
Why Did the Song Suddenly Go Viral?
As Norway advanced deep into the 2026 FIFA World Cup, social media users began digging into Haaland’s past and quickly uncovered the hilarious music video.
The internet immediately fell in love with it.
The original YouTube upload exploded in popularity, generating millions of new views while TikTok, Instagram Reels, and X filled with memes, reaction videos, and fans singing along to the catchy chorus.
Many supporters even started calling “Kygo Jo” Norway’s unofficial World Cup anthem.

Kygo Kept His Promise
The story became even bigger when global dance music superstar Kygo noticed the viral trend.
Before Norway’s Round of 16 match against Brazil, Kygo teased fans on Instagram with a tropical house remix of “Kygo Jo.” He jokingly promised to officially release it—but only if Haaland scored against Brazil.
Haaland didn’t disappoint.
The Manchester City striker scored twice, helping Norway defeat Brazil and reach the World Cup quarterfinals. Within days, Kygo fulfilled his promise and released “Kygo Jo (Kygo Remix),” featuring Flow Kingz, JMK, and Lyng (Haaland).
From Meme to Streaming Success
What began as an inside joke has become a genuine music success story.
The remix immediately landed on Spotify, Apple Music, and YouTube, where football fans and EDM lovers embraced the unlikely collaboration. According to multiple reports, the track quickly climbed Spotify’s Norway Top 50, while videos using the song spread across social media.
For Kygo fans, it’s another reminder of the producer’s ability to transform unexpected ideas into polished dance records. For football fans, it’s proof that Haaland’s personality is just as entertaining off the pitch as it is on it.
The Internet Can’t Get Enough
Social media has been flooded with reactions like:
The remix has united football supporters and electronic music fans in a way few expected, creating one of the most entertaining crossover moments of the World Cup.
A Perfect Blend of Football and EDM
For fans of electronic music, this story feels especially fitting.
Kygo has spent years bringing tropical house to audiences around the world, while Haaland has become one of football’s biggest global superstars. Together, they’ve created a feel-good moment that celebrates Norwegian culture, music, and football—all wrapped into one unexpected viral hit.
Sometimes the biggest World Cup story isn’t the goal of the tournament.
Sometimes it’s a forgotten rap song from 2016 that suddenly becomes one of the hottest tracks of the summer.
